Where to Picnic in Calgary

Summer's finally here. It's time to stow away your parka and get outside! With the sun and heat blissfully upon us, we can finally stretch our legs, pack a picnic, and head to one of the many sensational outdoor spaces Calgary has to offer. Stanley Park

Nestled along the Elbow River in southwest Calgary, Stanley Park is a local favourite for picnicking. 21 hectares in size, the park offers a variety of activities and amenities including tennis courts, walking paths, playground areas, canoe and raft access to the Elbow River, swimming and even lawn bowling. 

 

Shouldice Park

Located in northwest Calgary, Shouldice Park is part major athletic center (Shouldice Aquatic Center and Shouldice Arena surrounding the park) and part relaxing neighbourhood park all in one. Sandy Beach Park

Spanning 33 hectares of lush landscape, Sandy Beach park lies in Calgary's southwest, along the Elbow River. It offers fabulous views of the river, in addition to playgrounds, fire pits, walking paths, canoe and raft access to the Elbow, and numerous beautiful picnic sites. Find out more.

 

Bowness Park

A favourite spot for paddle boating in the summer and ice skating in the winter, Bowness is one of the city's premiere picnicking places. Located along the Bow River, the park has a shallow lagoon that runs along the southern edge, and numerous amenities including a Tea House, Boat House and Skate Shop, walking paths, playground, wading pool, firepits, and picnic areas. Edworthy Park

Edworthy Park is a diverse, 169 hectare greenspace with a huge range of amenities that make it a year-round destination. Bordered by the Bow River and the community of Wildwood, Edworthy Park includes the natural areas of Douglas Fir Trail and Lawrey Gardens.
