Holiday recipes we love

Canada is such a wonderfully diverse country. No matter your background or faith, you'll love these holiday recipes. Give these traditional recipes for Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa a try this year!

Figgy pudding

A Christmas classic, figgy pudding has graced Christmas tables for generations. If you've never tried it, you're in for a treat! It's sticky and sweet, loaded with warming spices, dried fruit and chocolate. You traditionally steam it but this recipe is easier and baked! It tastes incredibly rich thanks to the sweet and creamy sauce it gets smothered in at the table! A must try this holiday season.

Sufganiyot

You've likely encountered potato latkes, but have you heard of this sweet hanukkah tradition? Sufganiyot are fried jelly filled donuts that are traditionally enjoyed for dessert during hanukkah. Dusted with icing sugar, they're super sweet and the burst of jelly or jam inside is a delightful surprise. Why donuts? Hanukkah food is characterized by frying in oil. The holiday is all about two miracles. The first miracle is a miracle of might. A small group of Jewish fighters, led by Judah the Maccabee and his family, defeated the Syrian Greek Army. The second miracle is a miracle of light. When the victory was won, the Jews entered their Temple in Jerusalem and found it desecrated. There was only one small container of oil inside, enough to light their menorah in their Temple for one day...but it lasted eight days. This gave them enough time to produce new oil to keep it lit.

Ghanian chicken and peanut stew

This recipe makes for a delightful entree for Kwanzaa. What is Kwanzaa? In short, it's a non-religious holiday initiated by Maulana Karenga. She was a professor and activist in the 1960s. The holiday celebrates African American heritage and culture across the diaspora. Many of the recipes enjoyed during the celebration are either from African countries or heavily influenced by them. This Ghanaian chicken and peanut stew is the perfect entree for your Kwanzaa celebration! It's

hearty, spicy and absolutely delicious. It'll become a new favorite in your home for sure!

We hope you give these fabulous recipes a try this holiday season!
