Eco-friendly body care brands that we love

As we head into 2023, many of us have resolved to be more eco-conscious in our day to day lives. From eating more plant based meals, to composting and recycling, to walking instead of driving, to being more conscious consumers by choosing environmentally-friendly products -- there are many ways to green up your life. Today we want to help you buy products that are kinder to the environment. Here are some eco-friendly body care brands that we love.

The Body Shop

An oldie but a goodie, The Body Shop stands strong as an admirable brand that works hard to protect the environment. They're a B Corp™ which means they're one of 3,000 businesses worldwide to have the highest social and environmental standards for people and the planet. Of their many efforts, one that really stands out is that they're working hard towards a goal of zero waste packaging with a focus on using fewer plastic materials. They're using more plant-based and recycled plastic (rather than oil-based plastics), and helping people around the world to reuse, repurpose and recycle. In 2019, they reintroduced their impressive refill program and removed 21 tonnes of plastic from their Christmas gifts. They sell cruelty-free vegan and vegetarian products and shun animal testing.

Canadian shampoo bars (from Jack59 and UpFront Cosmetics)

You might be surprised to learn that more than 552 million shampoo bottles end up in landfills each year! You can fight this devastating accumulation by switching to shampoo and conditioner bars! Jack59 and UpFront Cosmetics shampoo bars eliminate up to 3 plastic bottles. Jack59's conditioner bars can eliminate up to 5 bottles! Jack59's bars are made in Edmonton by women, and UpFront is a female-owned New Brunswick company. UpFront offers a line of shampoo and conditioner bars which are sulfate-free, paraben-free, and fragrance-free.

Sḵwálwen

Sḵwálwen is an Indigenous business which offers small-batch botanical skincare products. Armed with traditional Skwxwúmesh (Squamish) plant knowledge, their products are formulated with wild-harvested plants and organic ingredients. Their wild plant ingredients are harvested sustainably and each product has a Squamish name. The brand is founded by an ethnobotanist, researcher, and community activist named Leah.

We hope this post helps you find eco-friendly body care products to incorporate into your routine!
