The best skating rinks in Canada

With winter in full swing, it's time to get out there and hit the ice! If you love to skate, you'll want to add these Canadian skating rinks to your bucket list. They're all pretty spectacular and worth the trip!

Rideau Canal Skateway, Ottawa

No winter trip to Ottawa is complete without some quality time spent skating along the Rideau Canal Skateway! It's the world's largest skating rink! Stretching an impressive 7.8km, it's an epic way to see the beautiful city and get in a good workout. It's typically open from January to March, weather depending, for 24 hours a day!

Lake Louise, Banff

Known for its stunning turquoise water, Lake Louise in Banff freezes solid in winter and is transformed into a breathtakingly beautiful skating rink. If hitting the ice outdoors with the Rockies as the backdrop sounds joyous to you, add this special spot to your bucket list. The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise even rents skates so you don't have to bring them along.

Red River Mutual Trail, Winnipeg

The Red River Mutual Trail is in the 2018 Guinness Book of World Records as the longest naturally frozen skating trail. Its size changes due to weather annually, so its length is inconsistent from year to year. It is located on the Assiniboine and Red Rivers. Open between January and March, it's a fabulous place to skate outdoors, as well as a good spot to enjoy a bite to eat and some hot chocolate from a local vendor along the trail.

Bonsecours Basin, Montreal

Visiting Montreal usually involves spending some time in beautiful old town. You'll be happy to find a rink there with guaranteed perfect skating conditions regardless of the weather at Bonsecours Basin. You can skate there day or night, but nights are just a bit more fun thanks to live music and activities near the rink.

Lake Windermere Whiteway, Invermere and Windermere

Visit the world's longest skating track, the Lake Windermere Whiteway, in B.C. It's over 20 miles long and connects Invermere and Windermere. Along the track you'll find Kinsmen Beach which features a lovely skating rink and firepit.
